More than 25 years ago, he became a father for the first time. The birth of any couple’s first child is one of those moments that stay with us for the rest of our lives. One of celebration – or so one might think.
The next morning, Matt received what many would perceive as horrific news. His daughter, Emily, was born with Down syndrome. Many would immediately jump to the conclusion that this little girl would have very little hope for a life with any significance. Then, just two years later came a devastating diagnosis of leukemia.
Matt’s life mission and passion is to share the remarkable story of how the life of his little girl, with all its so-called limitations had great significance.
In addition to speaking and writing, Matt first and foremost considers himself an advocate. He volunteers his time to helping organizations and charities dedicated to assisting families with children who have special needs or those battling pediatric cancers, as well as families who grieve over the loss of a loved one.
